Eravikulam - Rajamala Wildlife Sanctuary
(13km)
Eravikulam is a National Park accomodating half
the world population of a rare species of mountain goat-Nilgiri
Tahr. The highest peak in the South India, Anamudi which
towers over 2695 m. falls in the southern part of the
park. It’s an ideal spot for trekking.
Mattupetty (13km)
Situated at an elevation of 1700m, Mattupetty is the seat
of the highly specialised Indo-Swiss Dairy Project. Over
a 100 varieties of high yielding cattle are reared here.
Visitors are allowed into three out of the eleven cattle
sheds. The Mattupelly lake and dam in proximity is yet
another picnic spot. Boating facility is available here.
Echo Point (14km)
A Scenic place renowned for its natural echo phenomenon.
Kundala (16km)
A picturesque town. 1800 m above sea level. The Golf Course
and Kundala artificial dam are of great interest to tourists.
Top Station (34km)
1700 m above sea level this hill top offers a panoramic
view of the neighbouring state of Tamilnadu. The station
is along the Munnar-Kodaikkanal road. The remains, of
the rope way and mini local rail line constructed for
the transportation of tea and spices during the British
rule can be seen here. The Neelakurunji that blooms once
in 12 years belongs to this region.
Marayoor Sandal Wood Forest
(40km)
The only place in Kerala where one gets to see natural
sandal forest. The sandal wood facatory of the Forest
Department, the caves (Muniyaras’) with murals and
relics from the New stone Age and the Childrens park are
the major attractions. Sugarcane is largely cultivated
here and handmade sharkara (Treacle) is another Marayoor
exclusive.
Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary
(60km)
A unique Sanctuary with a thorny scrub jungle. A wide
range of animals including elephant, gaur , porcupine,
lion tailed monkey and birds like jungle fowl, spotted
dove, etc. are seen here. Watch Towers can be erected
in the forest with permission.
Pallivasal (8km)
Kerala’s first Hydro-electric project and a place
of immense scenic beauty.
Pothanmedu (4km)
A point for an excellent view of plantations and a typical
spot for trekking and long mountain walks.
Lock Heart Gap (13km)
Situated along the Munnar-Devikulam road lock heart gap
is an ideal place for adventure tourism and trekking.
Kanthalloor
A scenic spot characterized by large scale apple orange
and vegetable cultivation.
Devikulam hill station (16km)
Literally means the ‘Pond of Goddess’ Devikulam
is a tiny but beautiful hillstation. Legend says Sita,
the consort of Lord Rama, once had a bath in this lake.
So it’s still known as Sitadevilake.
Amaravathi Crocodile Farm (70)
Asia’s largest. A rare opportunity to see awesome
crocodiles in action.
Cheeyappara
Waterfalls
The waterfalls here cascade down in seven steps offering
a real treat for the eyes. It’s also place for trekking
at its best.
Nyayamakad (10km)
A place between Munnar and Rajmala where breathtaking
waterfalls awaits you.
Attukal (9km)
Located near Pallivasal, Attukal is a place of waterfalls
and rolling hills.
Sooryanelli (27km)
The lake and Tea plantations in this hill resort attract
a large number of people. The route to Sooryanelli winding
through the hills is really a great delight.
